Intermuscular haematoma
'Inter' means between and 'haematoma' is bleeding so an intermuscular haematoma is bleeding between muscles.
When there is a direct blow to muscle a local compression injury can occur and bleeding results. There are two types of muscle bleeding or haematoma - intramuscular and intermuscular. An intermuscular haematoma is generally not as severe as an intramuscular haematoma as the blood is able to ask more easily. Usually swelling and bruising 24-48 hours after injury but this often is seen further down the leg from the injury due to gravity.
