Fat pad

The fat pad is an area of fatty tissue below the patella (kneecap) and behind the patellar tendon. It fills the space between the patellar tendon and the cruciate ligaments in the middle of the knee, and has a cushioning effect in this space.

The fat pad can become damaged during knee injuries and may become inflamed and painful.
