Post op pain after TKa

Hi-

I am new to this forum and have not spent much time on any type of blog entry etc- any suggestions welcome- it may be I should be just participating in another established board.

I had a right total knee last Wednesday and am at home now. I am 57 and was a runner for 35 years- when 2 arthroscopic proceedures only made swelling and pain worse this was my only option.

I think things are medically going well. My problem is pain relief- I had a femoral nerve block post op that only worked a little and noneof the pain meds I tried in the hospital touched the pain.  Preop I was on no pain med except Motrin which I had to stop preop.

I didn't sleep in the hospital for 3 days despite trials of different pain meds which didn't help. Coming home helped a lot and I can mannage the pain quite well during the day. The problem I am finding is terrible pain at night no matter what I try. I cant find a comfortable position and wake up with mainly calf pain ( I was eval for DVT and don't have)

Any suggestions for getting comfortable at night? I just got some skelexan and hope that might help.  I have tried pillows under knees etc. Maybe I just need to wait this out but I am beginning to dread nighttime. Any help appreci ated.  If not the place for this comment or question please let me know where to post.  thanks  Margueritte

[MESSAGE FROM EDITOR - Yes, Margueritte, you are in the wrong part of the site to ask questions. This area is for blogs, and of course you are welcome to continue blogging here. I think, though, that it would be good for you to make your way to the knee replacement section of the bulletin board where you will have all your questions answered.]
