Antero-lateral
The word 'antero-lateral' is a combination of the position words 'anterior' and 'lateral'.
Anterior means 'in front' or 'in front of'. Anterior knee pain means pain in the front of the knee. Or a structure in the body can be anterior to another structure, eg the kneecap is anterior to the thighbone.
Lateral means ‘on the outer side’. If you slap your thighs, that is the ‘lateral’ side of your knee, whereas your knees rub together on the inner, or medial, side.
Antero-lateral means ‘at the front on the outer aspect’.
